Natalie Portman, Colin Firth Take Top SAG Awards!!

Black Swan's Natalie Portman and The King's Speech's Colin Firth, along with The Fighter's Melissa Leo and Christian Bale, might just as well clear their mantels.

They all took home Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday night, a reliable prognosticator of the Feb. 27 Oscars.

Among those she thanked, Portman singled out her parents, "who taught me to work the hardest and never to be an a------, that wasn't acceptable."

Firth, acknowledging those in the room, joked, "I'd like to thank security for letting me into the building."

Leo brought along six of the seven women who played her daughters in the fight drama, while Bale took to the stage of L.A.'s Shrine Auditorium with the real-life character he plays, Dicky Eklund.

Outstanding movie ensemble was the cast of The King's Speech. Besides Firth, they include Helena Bonham-Carter and Geoffrey Rush. (read more)

Meet Jesse Tyler Ferguson's New Man!!

At Sunday's SAG Awards, Modern Family fans will have their eyes on breakout star Jesse Tyler Ferguson – and possibly his hot date, lawyer Justin Mikita. (Once they stop gawking at Sofia Vergara, of course!)

The new couple have been hitting the awards show circuit – and the town – together as of late, and releasing a steady stream of smitten photos via Twitter.

The actor, 35, brought Mikita, 25, to an Elle Women in TV event Thursday night and then to Entertainment Weekly's bash at the Chateau Marmont Saturday night, where they hung out together outside for 15 minutes before joining the party.

Will the pair hit the red carpet together Sunday night at the Shrine Exhibition Center in Los Angeles – come rain or shine? Looks like it! Just this afternoon Mikita Tweeted to Modern Family star Nolan Gould, 12, "hope you brought a poncho! See you soon :)"

Henry Cavill to Play Superman!!

Warner Bros. Pictures has announced that Henry Cavill will play Clark Kent/Superman in the Zack Snyder-directed Superman movie:

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced today that Henry Cavill has won the coveted role of Superman, the iconic superhero.

The film will be directed by Zack Snyder, who stated, “In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen. I also join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield.”

Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder are the producers of the film. The screenplay is being written by David S. Goyer based on a story by Goyer and Nolan. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers.

Cavill recently wrapped production on “The Cold Light of Day” and stars in the upcoming “Immortals,” opening this fall.

Targeted for release in December 2012, the new Superman movie will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company. (source)

David Cook: New Album, New Confidence!!

His gritty rock voice is what helped David Cook, 28, win season seven of American Idol.

But when working on his latest, as yet untitled studio album, he learned to use that voice in a whole new way.


 As usual, Cook collaborated with an array of music industry veterans, from Kelly Clarkson songwriter Chantal Kreviazuk to OneRebublic vocalist Ryan Tedder. But in contrast to the "anxiety" he felt making his platinum-selling, self-titled, post-Idol album, the Missouri-bred singer told AOL's Popeater: "Sitting in the room with these people, I still managed to find my voice … really speaking up for myself and making sure that what was happening was going to come across as me and not, 'Here's David Cook singing somebody else's songs.' "


In a behind-the-scenes video shot at Emblem studios in Calabasas, Calif., Cook comes across as self-assured, but not cocky: "I'm very confident in my own ability to write music, but I think anytime you can bounce ideas off of other people – you know, two heads are better than one."

Here are a few picture I took of Robyn singing live at the Sound Academy in Toronto last night (Jan. 26th, 2011). I have enjoyed Robyn since her "Show Me Love" and "Do You Know (What It Takes)" days and I've also been pretty happy with her evolving electro-pop sound as well.

It was a complete pleasure to be front row at the Sound Academy. It's a perfectly sized venue that allows an artist to be a little more intimate with their audience. She is a fantastic singer and delivered a great performance. I can't wait to see her again. -nd!!

Glee Goes Gruesome for 'Thriller'!!

Costumed and covered in gruesome zombie makeup, the cast is hardly recognizable as they gnash their teeth and perform a jerky dance across a football field for the big Feb. 6 post-Super Bowl extravaganza.

Joined by sexy blue-haired cheerleaders, the group will take on the Michael Jackson's classic "Thriller" video as a mashup with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs's "Heads Will Roll."

The episode, at between $3 and $5 million the most expensive to date, will focus on the growing tension between the Glee club and the football team. "You can never re-create something as incredible as 'Thriller,' " Lea Michele tells Entertainment Weekly. "We're making it our own."
