Crosby Helps Canada Win Ice Hockey Gold!!

Canada is once again on top of the hockey world as they have defeated the United States 3-2 in overtime in the gold medal game at the Olympic hockey tournament.

Sidney Crosby was the overtime hero as he beat Ryan Miller mid-way through the extra-frame.

While Roberto Luongo was criticized prior to the tournament for his lack of big game experience, he has likely silenced those doubters as he made 34 saves in the victory. (read more)

Men's Curlers Win Canada's 13th Gold!!

Canada won their 13th gold medal of the 2010 Games on Saturday when their undefeated men's curlers beat Norway 6-3 to seal their second consecutive Olympic crown.

The result left Canada untouchable in the gold medal count, an impressive achievement for a nation coming into these Games having failed to win a single title on home ground at the 1976 Summer Games and the 1988 Winter showpiece.

In a tight battle at the Vancouver Olympic Centre, Canada, urged on by a passionate capacity home crowd, kept an iron grip on the final early on and were never behind throughout.

Skip Kevin Martin, speaking about the win, said: "Finally, it took a long time. But the hard work was worth it."

"I can't explain it. It's an amazing feeling and I think it will get better and better as the day goes on."

Canada were 3-0 ahead at the break but the Norwegians, wearing their trademark diamond-patterned trousers, scored two points in the sixth end to pull back to within a point. (read

Jason Isaacs on Harry Potter Endings!!

Friday morning at the junket for Paul Greengrass' Green Zone, we spoke with Jason Isaacs who played Lucius Malfoy in the previous installments and will be back for the film's big finale; he gave us a tease of what fans of the books and movies can expect:

"They made the last book into two films, and it was a fantastic experience because everyone who is left alive is back... and even some of the dead people," he said with a sly smile. "There is one long sequence where everyone who is left standing is there when the forces of good meet the forces of evil."

"I think over the years that they've been adapting these incredibly popular and successful books, they've increasingly become more and more confident in their ability to make great cinema experiences out of it and where they need to change the book or the central thrust of the story, they do it now with real aplomb and with Jo Rowling's blessing," he continued. "Everybody is very savvy to the notion that this is a much-loved franchise and this will be the end of an eighth film, and it needs to have weight and substance and you need to feel drained by the end of it. It's a ten-year roller coaster ride, not a two-hour roller coaster ride, and we all know it and we all felt it, and it was in the air while we were shooting it." (read more)

Canada Defeats Slovakia in Semi-Finals!!

It was close, but Team Canada gets to go for gold at the Vancouver Olympics.

Ryan Getzlaf scored a goal and set up another as the Canadian men took a lead and then survived a wild third-period comeback to defeat Slovakia 3-2 in semifinal action Friday night.

Canada, looking to avenge a 5-3 loss in round-robin play, will take on the United States in an all-North American final Sunday in the first Olympic tournament played on an NHL-size rink. The U.S. trounced Finland 6-1 earlier Friday.

The same teams met in the final of the last Winter Games held in North America in 2002 in Salt Lake City, where Canada prevailed 5-2.

''It gives us an opportunity to do something we didn't do last time,'' U.S. defenceman Brian Rafalski said of the Salt Lake defeat.

Patrick Marleau and Brenden Morrow also scored for Canada in a game they dominated at both ends of the ice for two periods against a Slovak team that kept the score down by staying back and building a defensive wall in front of goaltender Jaroslav Halak. (read more)

Directed by Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois, the film features the voices of Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, America Ferrara, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Craig Ferguson, Kristen Wiig and T.J. Miller.

SeaWorld Trainer Dies in Killer Whale Attack!!

Guests at SeaWorld Orlando watched in horror Wednesday as a killer whale fatally attacked a trainer who fell into the tank.

The unidentified 40-year-old female trainer was explaining details of a frequently performed show at Shamu Stadium at 2 p.m. when she "apparently slipped or fell" into the water, says Orange County Fire Department spokesman John Mulhall.

Witness Victoria Biniak tells WKMG-TV the whale got a hold of the trainer's waist. "He was thrashing her around pretty good," Biniak says. "It was violent."

Paramedics were called to the theme park but could not revive the woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

"It is with great sadness that I report one of our most experienced trainers has drowned in an incident with one of our whales," park manager Dan Brown says, according to the WKMG.

Guests were evacuated, the sheriff's department secured the scene, and the park has been closed to the public.

The attack was by a whale named Tilikum, or "Telly" for short, a 30-year-old bull orca weighing 12,300 pounds. The cause was not immediately known.

Dakota Fanning All Grown Up!!

In our hearts, Dakota Fanning is still that precocious youngster in a tutu, prancing around with Brittany Murphy in 'Uptown Girls.' But we guess it's time to admit our little girl is all grown up. The actress turns sixteen today, with a classy dinner party to show for it. Fanning celebrated the big event at Villa Blanca in Beverly Hills, but lest you think she's too sophisticated for her own good, PEOPLE reports that the guest list included Fanning's cheerleading squad.

"Dakota looked adorable in a white blouse with a sequined, silver skirt and high heels," an eyewitness told the magazine. "She seemed very excited and touched about celebrating her special day with her family and friends."

In attendance was Cherie Currie, lead vocalist of The Runaways -- and the character Fanning portrays in an upcoming movie of the same name. The singer gave Fanning a guitar sculpture, which she carved from a solid piece of wood.

"She looked like she was having fun and was really cool," an onlooker told E! News. "She was talking to her friends and laughing all night." (source)

Canada's Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir Make Ice Dance History!!

Canada's Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir danced their way into history on Monday when they became the first North American couple as well as the youngest ever Olympic figure skating ice dancing champions.

The pair from Ontario took gold ahead of Meryl Davis and Charlie White of the United States as world champions Oksana Domnina and Maxim Shabalin of Russia took bronze after the free dance final at the Pacific Coliseum.

The only previous ice dancing medal won by Canada was when Tracy Wilson and Robert McCall too bronze in Calgary 22 years ago.

Competing in their first Olympics, Virtue, 20, and Scott, 22, had the home crowd on their feet after their flawless free skate to Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 5.

They finished 5.83 points ahead of their training partners White and Davis, who were also making their Games debut, and skated to Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera.

"We've dreamed about this for so long," said Virtue, who had feared her career was over two years ago after surgery on her shins. "It's been quite a journey - a bit rocky.

"There were times when we didn't think we would get back on track and skating again, but this makes the victory even sweeter."

The couple had taken the lead after Sunday's original dance and seemed to make time stand still with their free skate, scoring 110.42 points to give them an overall 221.57. (read more)

Jennifer Love Hewitt Parties 80's Style!!

'Ghost Whisperer' star Jennifer Love Hewitt turned 31 this weekend -- apparently, the actress also turned into Lady Gaga. Hewitt and some of her friends were caught on camera in outlandish outfits for Hewitt's '80s-themed birthday party, but their intensely-gelled hair bows evoked nothing so much as the 'Bad Romance' singer-fashionista.

So far, no photographs have emerged of Hewitt's boyfriend Jamie Kennedy on the big day, but we're willing to bet he stayed true to character by going all out. Hewitt told PEOPLE just before Valentine's Day that Kennedy knows how to treat a lady.

"He's done a bunch of romantic things just because that's who he is," she said. "It's hard to pick just one."

Olympian Scotty Lago Heads Home After Photo Controversy!!

Scotty Lago, winner of the bronze medal in the men's halfpipe snowboarding event Wednesday, voluntarily left the Winter Olympics Friday after risqué photos of a woman kissing and biting the medal surfaced in the media.

The free-spirited Lago, 22, was snapped with his bronze medal around his waist and the hardware hung over his groin area, allowing a woman to kiss it on a public street late Thursday in Vancouver.

A second shot shows the woman biting the medal, but this time Lago is holding it up by the logo on his Team USA T-shirt.

Lago apologized to the U.S. Olympic Committee and the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association, which required athletes to attend a special ambassador program prior to the games to avoid potential publicity nightmares.

"Scotty Lago is a great athlete, but with that comes a responsibility of proper conduct, and his involvement in this situation is not acceptable," said Association President and CEO Bill Marolt in a statement. "Scotty realizes his conduct was inappropriate. He has formally apologized and also made a decision to leave Vancouver today."

So far, officials have taken no action against the Seabrook, N.H., native.

The photos were published on the TMZ Web site.

American Idol’s Top 24 of Season 9 Revealed!!

After beginning the process Tuesday, we now have a top 24 on American Idol. Yay! After two weeks of nothing but musical snippets and sobbing outbursts, your head must start to hurt — it feels like Simon Cowell’s hair transformed into pain.

Tyler Grady made it, presumably on rock-star charisma. The thin, tousle-haired rocker was, after Casey James, the male singer most singled-out by the camera, but we’ve barely heard him sing. My impression is that he can yowl, and yelp and kick up a leg — appropriate enough for a rocker. Now we’ll learn how his voice handles the weekly challenges — maybe on Barry Manilow night?

Angela Martin was the singer with the most at stake, and her loss was a wallop. This was her third try, and her personal life in recent years has been a string of troubles: Her father died, her daughter has had terrible medical problems (and, last we heard, her mother had gone missing). She was weeping before she even reached the judges. Kara sat down with her, in her chair, to tell her it was a no but that she was a great singer. Then why?

It was great to see Lilly Scott in the top 24. Her cover of “Lullaby of Birdland” was the single best performance shown in the clips. But will she be at a disadvantage without the lung power of a Jordin Sparks? Let’s face it: If you want to win Idol, you generally need to be loud enough to make yourself heard in a wind tunnel. America likes that.

Lacey Brown, who failed to make the top 24 last season, succeeded this time on the strength of her version of “It’s a Wonderful World.” Other promising voices sticking around: Ashley Rodriguez, Alex Lambert and Katie Stevens. Oh: and Crystal Bowersox — or, as Randy Jackson called her, “Mama Bowersox.” An excellent voice, it seems, and a seemingly unflappable, folksy stage presence. But, like Lilly, she may be too distinctive for Idol. The production crew is probably itching to shellac her.

Haeley Vaughn clinched the last of the girls’ spots, beating Tori Kelly. Good: she’s got a special presence, even if one of her outfits suggested a cowgirl on a Hawaiian vacation.

Thaddeus Johnson competed with — and lost to — Andrew Garcia to be the 12th male singer. The judges didn’t really give Thaddeus a reason, which probably only added to his sorrows as the camera crews scuttled after him recording his tears. He finally escaped into a stall in the men’s room with his mom.

But Andrew, who cleverly covered Paula Abdul, was the better singer.
